AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns are officially in the running for a potential National Championship appearance.
On Sunday, the College Football Playoff (CFP) selection committee announced that the Longhorns have made it into the CFP and will play the Washington Huskies at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1. This will be the team's first-ever appearance in the CFP.
But fans who want to go to the game may find attending it a bit tricky – and costly.
First, here's what we know about ticket availability.
Texas Sports said Texas Football season ticket holders can request tickets for the Sugar Bowl by logging into their accounts. The deadline to request is Monday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. CST.
However, a request doesn't guarantee a season ticketholder will get a ticket to the game. Texas Sports said all requests will be filled in loyalty points rank order "within priority limits based on annual gifts." That means the season ticket holders who have donated more to the Longhorn Foundation have a higher chance of getting tickets to the Sugar Bowl.
Texas Sports said notifications will be sent out to all season ticket holders by Dec. 8 to let them know whether or not they got tickets. Credit cards won't be charged unless tickets are allocated.
So, what about University of Texas students? Texas Sports said UT has received a "very limited allotment" of student tickets for the Sugar Bowl. Students who are Big Ticket holders received an email with additional information regarding the student ticket process on Dec. 3.
That leaves the rest of the Longhorns' fans. The Sugar Bowl said fans can purchase official tickets to the Jan. 1 game on Ticketmaster. As of Monday morning, the cheapest ticket listed was $549 and the most expensive is $2,890. Prices vary – but not by much – on resale sites like StubHub and SeatGeek.
And we all know tickets aren't the only thing fans will be paying for if they make the trip out to New Orleans.
A Monday morning search on Google Flights showed the cheapest roundtrip flight from Austin to New Orleans from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2 was $516 for Spirit Airlines. Other listed flight prices ranged from $908 to $1,587.
Meanwhile, a search for "hotels near Ceasars Superdome," where the Sugar Bowl will be played, on the same dates showed results ranging up to $400 per night.
