BAY CITY, Texas — Someone in the Houston area is a millionaire after winning a big Powerball prize.
A Bay City resident claimed the prize worth $2 million for the drawing on Sept. 16, according to the Texas Lottery.
Sorry, all of you long-lost cousins out there but the winner chose to remain anonymous when they claimed their prize.
The prize-winning ticket was sold at Speedy Stop Food Store on 7th Street in Bay City. That's in Matagorda County, southwest of Houston.
The winning Quick Pick ticket matched all five white ball numbers but not the red Powerball ball number. The numbers were 8-9-11-27-31.
The Powerball is currently at $20 million.
$800 million Powerball jackpot won by Sugar Land resident
Earlier this month, someone in Sugar Land won the $800 million Powerball jackpot.
That ticket was sold at a Murphy USA gas station in Sugar Land, Texas, outside of Houston.
They also chose to keep their name a secret.
Texas law says that any lottery winner with a prize over $1 million may maintain their anonymity when coming forward to claim the prize.
Only 11 states, including Texas, allow anonymous lottery winners. The rest of the U.S. requires them to come forward publicly, usually sometime within a year after winning the jackpot.
