SAN ANTONIO — In the second installment of "Bill in My Boots," Bill's in the boots of a school custodian!
Bill found out the hard way that cleaning up after 1,500 students at a San Antonio middle school is no easy task. Nearly 1,500 students walk the halls of Briscoe Middle School. And head custodian Patty Avila takes great pride in providing a germ-free and clean environment for learning.
Bill spent the day learning the ins and outs of Ms. Avila’s busy day, the busiest part of which is lunch. Getting all the tables cleaned and all of the trash outside, only to make room for the next 400 to 500 hungry students, is tough!
Ms. Avila said the most challenging days are ones with special programs. In addition to students, custodians must set up and then clean up for families and friends.
Northside Independent School District currently employs more than 800 full-time custodians… and they need more. The district is currently hiring, go to the NISD website for more information.
