'Pleading for help': $100,000 reward offered for information on deadly street shooting

It's been six years since a 25-year-old was gunned down in his vehicle. Loved ones believe he was caught in the crossfire of a fight he had nothing to do with.

SAN ANTONIO — Saturday will mark six years since a 25-year-old man was gunned down on the city’s west side. Oscar 'Alan' Thompson was driving a friend home when he was shot in the head.

It happened on Nov, 9, 2018, near Stonegate Drive and Wake Forrest Drive. Alan's killer is still out there.

In an emotional interview, the victim's mother told KENS 5 she’s been living a nightmare ever since.

“You don’t get over that,” said Teresa Thompson. “No one ever wants to be part of this team. Your family is incomplete. If you have not lost a child, it’s hard to describe how it is. The craziest sights or sounds will bring you back. It happens every day.”

Alan moved to San Antonio about a year before he was killed, according to his mother.

“He had only been out of college for a year and a half,” said Teresa. “We are from Louisiana originally. He loved San Antonio, and this is where he wanted to work; he had graduated in accounting and business. He came here and was working.”

Teresa believes her oldest son was at the wrong place at the wrong time. She says he got caught in the crossfire of a fight that had nothing to do with him.

“He left a bar, and he took a friend home,” she said. “That friend was in an altercation in the bathroom. We don’t think my son ever even knew about that altercation, but that altercation cost my son his life.”

Police believe a maroon SUV followed Alan and unleased gunfire on his truck. Teresa says about 10 rounds pierced Alan’s vehicle and one of the bullets struck him in the back of the head. Alan’s friend was not injured.

“He didn’t deserve that,” Teresa said through tears. “Nobody does, but he was a good kid.”

Teresa still remembers the last phone conversation she had with her oldest son. She was on her way home from a family funeral.

“And I told him, 'I hope me and your dad never have to go through something like this,’” she cried. “Little did I know that I was going to get that call that morning.”

Teresa drove through the night to be to her son. Alan spent seven days in the hospital before he was taken off life support.

“He would have turned 32 in January,” she said. “I think he would have a wife and maybe some kids if he were here today. He was saving for a house and was so close to buying one.”

The Thompson family is now offering $95,000 for information on his death. That’s on top of the $5,000 Crime Stoppers reward.

Teresa hopes key witnesses will value her family’s peace over protecting a murderer.

“I’m pleading for help from the public to come forward,” she said. “I’m not sure if [Alan’s killer] has children or not. But they will answer for this one day; whether it’s in this lifetime or when their day is up.”
