The family of a 7-year-old who was mauled to death by several dogs near New Braunfels almost two weeks ago is speaking out for the first time.
The boy's father wants to ensure other families don't have to experience his same heartache.
"He loved to come up to me every time I'd see him," said the boy's uncle, Vance Dawson. ("He'd) come up to me and start punching me and then give me a big old hug and say, 'I missed you, Bubba. I missed you, Bubba.'"
The energetic and dynamic Gaege Ramirez died about two weeks ago. He was in the backyard of a Canyon Lake house, near New Braunfels, when he was attacked by several dogs.
The Comal County Sheriff's Office found the boy covered in wounds and several mixed breed dogs on the property. Gaege died at a San Antonio hospital.
Despite their grief, the family is trying to raise $35,000 to benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
The hope is Gaege's memory will live on with other children who are sick or injured and get to go home with their families.
