SAN ANTONIO — A dream home full of memories was charred in minutes. A family of four in Natalia lost everything when their home caught fire back on July 20. Now, a community is rallying behind the family who is starting all over. Emma Cisneros' sister and her family are the ones that lost their belongings.
"Everything was completely gone in 20 minutes," she said. "It was very intense especially for the whole family."
She said the family was not home at the time. Cisneros recalls showing up to the Natalia home filled with fire crews.
"By the time we got there, you could really see through the trailer," she said. "By the time, they kept putting out the fire, it kept coming back up."
Cisneros said her sister's family was left with only the clothes on their back.
"For them to see their dreams now to ashes, that's something nobody wants to see," she said.
Cisneros stepped up to help her sister's family along with business owner and pastor Regina Navarro.
"You don't know their situation like Emma's sister," she said. "They lost everything in a fire. If they didn't have a good support system, they can end up in the street with all their family."
On Monday, this support system had a plate sale for the family at Navarro's restaurant called Nick's Taco's And Catering located at 606 New Laredo Highway. Navarro also leads Humble 2 Serve House of Prayer. She said this is what community is all about.
"Things happen in life, you can't help it," she said. "Tomorrow is never promised in any situation."
The family does have insurance and the cause is still under investigation. If you would like to help this family they need clothes, toiletries, or even money. Anyone can stop by at Nick's Taco's And Catering. The group also plans to do another fundraiser for the family on August 19.
