New mobile art van helping San Antonio community access artwork in different parts of city

The new whip offers many activities for kids and community members including classes on drawing, performing and writing.

SAN ANTONIO — The Carver Community Cultural Center is rolling out a new program on four wheels in an effort to help more people access art in the community.

Their new whip the "Creative Cruiser" offers many activities for kids and community members including classes on drawing, performing and writing.

The Creative Cruiser also has additional features like a flat screen and speakers in order to provide small film screenings and pop-up concerts.

Carver staff members said this was an important investment so they can meet people in different parts of the city.

“Now we're able to reach people that maybe don't know about the carver or just aren't able to access us for whatever reasons transportation, child care, or just general knowledge of the programs that we offer,” Executive Director Cassandra Parker-Nowicki said.

It took Carver officials three years to make the vision of the Creative Cruiser a reality.

Staff said this was only possible through a $100,000 grant provided by Impact San Antonio.

The Carver is currently working on a schedule for the cruiser to make appearances at schools, parks, and festivals.

Staff expect to have it out in the community by early fall.
