Visitors fill up select parks for overnight camping on Easter weekend

The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department has lifted park curfews at selected parks for the Easter holiday.

SAN ANTONIO — City parks have filled up with Easter campers as part of a holiday tradition in San Antonio.

The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department has lifted park curfews at selected parks for the Easter holiday.

Connie Swann with the city of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department says good food and good vibes are on the forecast for Easter this year.

“It’s a big tradition that’s been multi-generations long," Swann said. "My husband’s family is from San Antonio, and so I’ve heard all the stories."

She knows how large of an impact this tradition has on the community which she says is amazing, but she wants families to keep in mind to pick up after themselves so the park can remain beautiful for days and weeks to come.

“Groups of people coming out to the parks have an impact, so we want to make sure that people remember to bring extra trash bags," Swann said. "Sometimes we create more trash than what we think we’re gonna do.”

Visitors are urged to remove their trash at the end of their stay.

The Park Stewardship team will be visiting parks and providing extra trash bags to park visitors.

According to the Parks and Recreation department, recycling bins are also available in the parks and should be used for plastic bottles, cans, and no glass containers are allowed.

“Our city’s Easter camping tradition is like none other, and we’re excited to welcome families, friends, and neighbors to select parks over the holiday weekend,” said Homer Garcia III, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We encourage visitors to do their part to ensure our parks remain clean by disposing of litter and recyclables properly. Whatever you pack into the park, please remember to pack it out.”
