'It is not fair' | Family of Sebastian Carpio return graveside on his birthday

The young man, who was killed in 2020, would've turned 20-years-old on Sunday.

SAN ANTONIO — Inside a west-side church, a celebration of life mass was held over the weekend for a young man who was killed two years ago.

Emotions ran high during the service from those who loved Sebastian Carpio. Sunday marked what would have been his 20th birthday.

"I wish that my Sebastian could have been here," said Ana Maria Carpio, his mother.

On Sunday, Sebastian's family and friends also gathered around his gravesite on the southside. Many trying to make light of what has been a dark couple of years.

"It's not fair to me. It's not fair to my family," said his mother.

Her son was shot to death in September of 2020. Days after he disappeared, Sebastian's body was found stuffed in the trunk of a stolen car after the vehicle was set on fire in a remote pasture in west Bexar County.

His killer, also a teenager at the time, was caught but only recently was he transferred to an adult prison to serve out the remainder of his 25-year sentence.

Ana Maria, with the support from the community, fought against the killer's premature release earlier this month.

"He should've been transferred from the beginning," she said.

She is now turning her attention to other individuals believed to have been involved in the incident.

"I want all of those individuals to be held accountable," said Ana Maria.

She hopes justice is eventually brought in full, but for now, she is relying on the support of her family and friends.

"We love her and we're gonna be here to support her and the family," said Rocio Padille, a family friend.
