Kids and teens can take free swim lessons at some San Antonio pools, registration opens Saturday

Let's Swim SA is a program hosted by the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, teaching children and adults lifesaving water skills.

SAN ANTONIO — Free swimming lessons are back!

The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department is offering free swim lessons for the summer season through their Let's Swim SA Program.

The free swim lessons is available for those of all ages including adults. The lessons are separated into 4 different age groups including Tot and Me, Preschool, School Age and Adults.

If you want to take advantage of the free classes, officials say you'll need to set your alarm.

“Get ready for these registrations, because they do fill up very very quickly," Connie Swann, Marketing Manager, San Antonio Parks and Recreation said.

Opening enrollment is Saturday morning at 10 a.m.  Enrollment is for their 2nd or 3rd session of free swim lessons.  The classes will teach lifesaving skills, so you and your children can stay safe and comfortable around the water.

“So blowing bubbles in the water, submerging your head, and holding your breath. So these are all the basic skills. How to turn over, how to tread," Swann said.

The classes are held at all 24 city owned outdoor pools, so you can find a class near you.

"You'll see when you go to register all the list of the pools and the different availabilities that we offer.  We have classes for parent and child. We have preschool age classes, school age, and even classes for adults," Swann said.

Swann said you can go online to check the classes before registration opens on Saturday.

“When you go to our our link to register, take a look in advance before the registration opens up at 10 a.m. on Saturday.  Open up an account, that way you can quickly access the classes, and find the ones that you want and that are available at the times that you need," Swann said.

If you can't register for this session, you'll have another opportunity to register for the 3rd session on July 13th, also at 10 a.m.
