SAN ANTONIO — Here's a side effect of road construction you don't think about: Horses finding their way into your neighborhood.
A neighbor who lives off Prue Road on the northwest side of San Antonio tells KENS 5 she was out for a walk and noticed something out of the ordinary: Horse droppings in the middle of the street.
She later found out it was a horse who had been spotted trotting around the neighborhood earlier that day.
It apparently escaped from a home in Oakland Estates, a nearby subdivision, around 7 a.m. Friday.
Neighbor, Debbie Schulz, shared a video of the horse on the loose with KENS 5. She said she was chatting with other neighbors in a driveway when they all began to hear what sounded like horse's hooves on the pavement. They turned to look down the street, and sure enough there was a horse trotting in the middle of the road headed their direction.
In the video, the horse appears to stay on the right side of the road, obeying traffic laws.
Another neighbor can be heard in the video asking, "You want me to give him a carrot or something?"
"No, no," a different neighbor replied.
Construction along Prue Road had the entrance gates to neighborhoods open for a short period of time, which allowed the horse to trot in without entering a passcode.
A neighbor called 311 and police arrived roughly 10 minutes later.
We're told the horse's owner came by with a trailer to take the animal back home shortly after.
