Students in the Jourdanton Independent School District wore blue in honor of Madison and Tanner McLeary who passed away tragically in a car crash last week on their way to school.
The school district dedicated Friday “Blue Shirt Day” in honor of the McLeary siblings. The JISD senior class wore blue and signed photos of the pair to show their support for the family.
Schools in surrounding towns also extended their support by wearing blue, sending handmade cards, and offering to send their counseling staff to support students who are dealing with the loss of their classmates.
“Tanner was an outstanding young man and very well-liked by his classmates and teachers," Jourdanton Junior High School Principal Robert Rutkowki said. "He was a funny, jolly, respectful young man and he genuinely loved his friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. All of us are better people for having the honor to have known him and to have been part of his brief but meaningful life.”
In addition to “Blue Shirt Day,” neighboring Poth ISD presented a check to Jourdanton ISD during a basketball game between Poth and Jourdanton on Friday night.
According to a Facebook post from the Jourdanton Athletic Booster Club, the $1600 was raised by Poth students and faculty.
