SAN ANTONIO — Communities Under the Bridge in San Antonio is making sure our unsheltered neighbors have a warm place to stay during the arctic blast.
Kacey Knight is on the board and is a volunteer.
"We love serving our unsheltered friends in the street," she said. "We are solely there for them, and their support."
She said Communities Under the Bridge opened its overnight shelter on Sunday and is nearly at capacity.
"We're seeing people come in with frostbite," Knight said.
She said if that happens, they make sure people with frostbite do get treated by medical professionals. Knight added they're working with the city and others to make sure people get inside where it is warm.
"So many of them don't want to leave their camps, and they don't want to leave their belongings," she said.
Communities Under the Bridge gives them blankets, sleeping bags, and a warm meal as well as socks, gloves, and jackets.
"They lack everything we have in our homes," Knight said. "People in San Antonio have big hearts especially when it comes to our homeless."
Communities Under the Bridge is always looking for monetary, or clothing donations even volunteers.
