SA outreach program, clothing line gives free golf equipment to kids, helps strengthen their skills

Eligible kids are gifted free golf equipment and apparel. Members can also participate in clinics and lessons at a discounted rate.

SAN ANTONIO — Nine-year-old’s Cristian De La Rosa and Brayden Aguilar love the great game of golf and thanks to a local outreach program they don’t have to worry about buying equipment.

On Par Golf Apparel, a golf clothing line launched in December 2023 and recently started their newest outreach program, the Flamingo Club, which gives eligible kids free golf equipment and apparel.

Flamingo Club members are also eligible for clinics and lessons at a discounted rate.

Founder Ray Garza was inspired to create this program after remembering his own problems as a kid.

“I didn’t have much growing up but I was fortunate enough that my dad did play golf so I got involved but it was always a struggle to get golf equipment,” Garza said.

Cristian and Brayden are proud members of the Flamingo Club and received golfing equipment and apparel.

Cristian is thankful for the program and how it’s helped him improve his game and strengthened his fundamental understanding of the sport.

“It’s helped me learn how to swing, how to hold the club, and what to do in my stance,” Cristian said.

Brayden loves how Flamingo Club has given him the opportunity to play a sport that helps him bond with his family.

“It’s fun to learn and I can play with my brother and dad," Brayden said.

Garza said Flamingo Club’s mission is to help children from the greater San Antonio area grow their love of golf without the financial burdens of buying gear.

Flamingo Club plans on hosting an official giveaway where kids are given their equipment at a ceremony. The first giveaway is set for June 15 and the second is planned for some time in December.

“We couldn’t be more excited to put this together and offer these kids an opportunity to get brand-new equipment to start playing golf,” Garza said.

The logo for On Par Golf Apparel is a pink flamingo wearing a gold crow. The logo is a play on Garza’s full name which is roughly translated to “King Flamingo.”

Garza originally launched On Par Golf, an instructional golf service six years ago before deciding to expand the business to On Par Golf Apparel and Flamingo Club.

Purchases made at On Par Golf Apparel help pay for the golfing equipment given to Flamingo Club members.

“I can’t stress enough the importance for our community to back what we’re doing because without the support and without the purchasing we don’t get to reach as many kids as we’d like,” Garza said.
