SAN ANTONIO — A local pet rescue organization in Von Ormy is launching a new mental health awareness campaign during National Suicide Prevention Month.

God's Dogs Rescue is donating $25 from each adoption fee to the Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas during the month of September.

The new campaign called Taylor's Wish was created in memory of Taylor Shaffer, the nephew of God's Dogs Rescue Director of Operations Debbie Davis. Taylor passed away in November 2023 due to "the negative effects of alcohol on his mental health."

Davis wanted to honor Taylor's legacy by helping find homes for animals at the shelter, which is currently exceeding its capacity, and spreading awareness about local resources for those struggling with mental health issues.

God's Dogs Rescue rescues more than 1,500 pets each year and provides the animals with shelter, food and care.
