Local flower shop is 'tickled pink' by the abundance of Valentine's Day orders

On days like today the family-owned business is enjoying the rush of orders – not having a moment to sit back and smell the roses.

SAN ANTONIO — This year would make 19 years that the Pretty Petals Floral Boutique has served the community.

Pretty Petals Floral Boutique owner Leticia Rodriguez says it's been a good day for sales at her shop.

“I’ve been working 16, 18-hour days. I left last night at 2:00am and I was back here at 6am.”

Operating a family-owned business has its challenges, but with the rush of orders, the family couldn't be more pleased. Rodriguez's entire family has played a part in the business. When Rodriguez started her business, she was six months pregnant with her daughter.

“My sons grew up delivering for me," she said. "That’s how they learned how to drive.”

One of the most popular deliveries may surprise you.

“Some Valentine's Day[s] it’s nothing but red roses but I think this year everybody’s going for a mixed arrangement for the lower cost," Rodriguez said. "So we’ve seen more spring mixes than a dozen roses this year.”

Spring mixed arrangements start at $20. While rose bouquets range from $45 to $80.

“Depends on the grade of the rose, and the length of the rose. And how extravagant you want it.”

Rodriguez suggests ‘sharing the love’ with other small businesses.

“Not only my shop but any small family floral shop business," she said. "It’s great to support your local business out there.”
