San Antonio area residents invited to back-to-school-events all across the city

City officials encourage residents to stop by one of their many back-to-school events aimed at helping students, families and educators.

SAN ANTONIO — The public is invited to the City of San Antonio's various back-to-school events as the march to the new academic year continues. 

City officials are encouraging residents to stop by one of the many back-to-school events aimed at helping students, families and educators.  

These events will offer essential resources and services to help students prepare for a successful academic year. Each one will essentially provide backpack and school supply giveaways, various resources and health services like immunizations. 

The events are part of collaborations between various organizations and community members. 

Locations and times: 

  • Back-to-School Health and Resource Fair: Saturday, July 27 from 8 a.m. -12 noon (District 3)
    Child Advocates of San Antonio (CASA), 1956 S W.W. White Road, 78222
    -District 3 encourages residents to join their team at this event which will feature over 30 vendors, school supply giveaways and health services.


  • LEVEL UP Resource Fair: Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Department of Human Services)
    Roosevelt Clubhouse, 331 Roosevelt Ave., 78210
    -This event is targeted at recent high school graduates, but anyone between the ages of 16 to 24 who needs support completing their financial aid application (FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid), assistance with college enrollment requirements, a job or figuring out their interests can attend.


  • Back to School Event: Friday, August 2 from 3:30pm - 6:30pm (District 9)
    Walker Ranch Senior Center, 835 W. Rhapsody Drive, 78216
    -District 9 invites families families to enjoy free paletas. They will also distribute more than 500 backpacks stuffed with supplies including pencils, crayons, notebooks, and more to K-12 grade students. Vendors will also provide free back-to-school services, such as dental kits from Imagine Dental, haircuts from Super Cuts, and immunization information.


  • Back to School Event: Friday, August 2 from 4-7 p.m. (District 2)
    PreK4SA East Education Center, 5230 Eisenhauer Road, 78218

    -The events hosted by District 2 aim to provide essential resources and services to help students prepare for a successful academic year. There will be backpack giveaways, free haircuts, food, and immunization resources. 


  • Back-to-School Readiness Bash: August 3 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. (District 6)
    Hallmark University, 9855 Westover Boulevard, San Antonio.
    -There will be educational resources, free school supplies, vaccinations, haircuts, food, music and more.


  • Back to School Event: Saturday, August 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (District 2)
    The DoSeum, 2800 Broadway, 78209

    -The events hosted by District 2 aim to provide essential resources and services to help students prepare for a successful academic year. There will be backpack giveaways, free haircuts, food, and immunization resources.


  • Back to School Bash: Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (District 7)
    Thomas Jefferson High School, Donaldson Avenue, 78201
    -This event will include free backpacks full of school supplies (while supplies last), free dental screenings, free vaccines and more. The event is exclusive to District 7 residents so they ask attendees to bring proof of address
  • Back to School Fair: Saturday, August 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (District 5)
    Westside Family YMCA, 2900 Ruiz St., 78228 
    -District 5 is inviting students, parents and caregivers to attend to receive backpacks, school supplies and resources from several city and community organizations. There will also be vaccinations and haircuts available. 


Other events being organized in San Antonio:

  • The Pearl is hosting a backpack donation drive that invites the city to "stuff a real bus" with the vital school item. Those who donate have a chance to win a pair of tickets to see LA LOM at Stable Hall. 
  • H-E-B has announced that nominations for the 2025 H-E-B Excellence Awards are now open to all Texas school professionals in Texas and is open until Oct. 7.
    • This includes teachers, counselors, principals, early childhood centers, school boards and districts, who can win cash prizes.
    • Since 2002, the program has awarded more than $14 million.
    • Anyone can nominate their educator of choice at heblovesteachers.com/nominate/.
    • Nomination categories include:
      • Teacher
      • School Counselor
      • Principal
      • Early Childhood Facility
      • School Board
      • School District
    • Educators who are nominated will receive an invitation to apply before Dec. 2.
    • 10 winners will be chosen: six teachers, two counselors and two principals. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in May 2025.
