SA boy needs help getting his smile back on track

Leonard Quintana is in need of a retainer to help his smile after years of occupational therapy.

SAN ANTONIO — Six-year-old Leonard Quintana has been overcoming obstacles since birth.

“It all started when he was born, he had Plagiocephaly, meaning he had bulging in the forehead and flatness towards the back," grandmother, Sylvia Martinez said.

KENS 5 first introduced you to Leonard months before his first birthday.

At that time he was in need of a cranial helmet that was not covered by insurance.

Leonard got his helmet, which helped correct 80% of his Plagiocephaly and Congenital Torticollis.

But the family later learned his conditions have also affected his jaw.

“Apparently it also somehow shifted his jaw where his nose and his jaw are not aligned, he has an overbite. It somehow affects him when he’s eating and it will affect him in the long run when he gets older as well,” Martinez said.

His family started a GoFundMe, hoping to now be able to fit him with a retainer he needs before the new school year starts.

“We’ve been a little tight on funds since COVID hit us, so all of this would help us,” Martinez said.

The hope is to get this first grader, who has been through years of occupational therapy, on track.

“We’re getting there but I would like to get 100%,” Martinez said.
