A business called KENS 5 after they stopped getting mail from the US Postal Service. Here's how USPS responded.

The Boat Shop hadn't seen a single letter in a week. On Friday, USPS told KENS 5 they made adjustments to make sure service is resumed.

SAN ANTONIO — It had been a week since Debbie Johnson received a single letter at the Kirby business she works at.

Thanks to construction at the Ackerman and Binz Engleman intersection, it was impossible for mail carriers and delivery drivers to access the road they'd normally use to get to The Boat Shop. When the road work started, Johnson said, mail from the U.S. Post Office stopped.

"No mail, no pickup, no delivery, nothing," Johnson said, despite the fact FedEx and other delivery services were still able to find their way to The Boat Shop.

On Thursday, Johnson reached out to KENS 5 for help, saying she called USPS on Wednesday, filed a service request and even started a separate customer's affairs case. She said a USPS representative reached out to the owner on Thursday.

But said there was an issue.

"She basically told him that we were not going to be able to receive or send any of the mail," Johnson said. "Because of the road closure."

KENS 5 reached out to the U.S. Postal Service on Friday, and we received a response in just a few hours. A spokeswomen said the local post office was aware and had made changes that should solve the problem.

"The Postal Service strives to always provide the best possible service to our valued customers. We apologize for any inconvenience that may have been experienced by our customer on Binz Engleman Rd. In this instance, the local postal supervisor reports that adjustments have been made to ensure mail is delivered on a daily basis, regardless of the construction," a spokesperson, Becky Hernandez, said via email.

Johnson was still waiting for mail as of Friday, but was thankful for the response.

"That would be wonderful," she said. "We're not trying to cause problems. We just need to get our mail."
