SAN ANTONIO — The City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association have reached a tentative agreement that raises wages for firefighters, the city says.

Under the agreement's terms, firefighters would get a 20 percent pay increase over three years, to include seven percent in fiscal year 2025, eight percent in 2026 and five percent in 2027.

The city says total cost of the contract is $109.6 million over three years.

The city and union began negotiating on Feb. 29 and have met 13 times since, according to the city. They also say this is the first time the two parties have agreed on terms of a contract since 2009.

The city says the contract also enhances the city's process for promotions, provides more accountability in the city's sick leave process and offers firefighters a better parental leave benefit.

Before the agreement is finalized, union membership have to ratify the terms and city council must approve the contact.
