SAN ANTONIO — The annual Fourth of July Celebration, hosted by the San Antonio Parks Foundation (SAPF) and the City of San Antonio, is returning to Woodlawn Lake Park for a day of barbecue far, family fun and fireworks.

The family-friendly celebration is free and will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, at Woodlawn Lake Park. Revelers will be able to kick-start the day with free fitness activities including an aqua Zumba class starting at 9 a.m. or a regular Zumba class at 10 a.m.

From 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., the July Fourth fare will include local food trucks and vendors serving all sorts of BBQ, fixins, drinks and of course, chicken-on-a-stick. Carnival games like bull riding, the human claw and much more will also be available for attendees to enjoy.

Texas Wrestling and Entertainment, along with Que Sabor Loteria, will be hosting wrestling matches from noon to 5 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the Welcome Salute kicks off the evening program that'll feature  "distinguished guests," City Council members and Bexar County commissioners.

Make sure to stick around for the H-E-B Fireworks Extravaganza that will start promptly at 9 p.m. and last around 12 minutes, according to SAPF.

SAPF released the following tips for visitors who are ready to celebrate:

  • No overnight camping allowed at Woodlawn Lake Park before, during, or after July 4.
  • Woodlawn Lake Park is an alcohol-free environment.
  • Please respect the neighborhood and remember to leave no trace! Bring trash bags and/or use appropriate containers to dispose of trash and recyclables.
  • Please do not block driveways and be mindful of “No Parking” signage. Ticketing and towing will be enforced.
  • What to bring: lawn chairs and blankets for seating, reusable water bottles, sunscreen, umbrellas, and hats for sun protection.

“We take great pride in uniting people of all backgrounds in our shared spaces,” said Mary Jane Verette, SAPF president and CEO, in a press release. “Fourth of July at Woodlawn Lake is a community tradition and we’re delighted to offer new programming and activities at this year’s event!”
