'They are unique and beautiful' | Lemonade Circle's hair care drive supports young women of color, empowers foster youths

The Lemonade Circle accepts donations year round.

SAN ANTONIO — A local nonprofit is inviting the public to help lift a child’s spirit, self-esteem and confidence.

The Lemonade Circle is holding a Black hair product drive to support and empower young women of color.

The organization is collecting the hair care products for foster children and those in shelters. The organization realized that several young girls show their character through their hair and image, and created the drive to ensure every child’s needs are met.

“We're trying to help our kids feel good about themselves and know that they are unique and beautiful, we often don't have those types of hair care products around our campus,” Lemonade Circle Founder and CEO Brandi Coleman said.

Lemonade Circle’s Black hair care product drive is a three month initiative to raise awareness and support children in the foster care system.

“There are a lot of students out in every district that are in foster care or being raised by a grandparent or being raised by a single mom or a single dad. And so they don't always have those supports,” Coleman said.

The products gathered in the drive are being given to Paschall Elementary - a part of Judson ISD.

“The state of our schools cannot survive without community partnership, community donations, those types of things. So, it literally takes a village,” Coleman said.

Others that have benefitted from this drive include San Antonio Threads, Boysville, Pathways, and The Youth Center of Texas that focuses on young woman impacted by human trafficking.

The Lemonade Circle accepts donations year round and will do their last drop off to Paschall on Wednesday.

People can also donate in person at Paschall Elementary from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., until the end of the week for their community closet.
