Community comes together to help families save money on needed school supplies by 'stuffing the bus'

$230,000 of school supplies are going to 160 schools across San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — We're in the final stretch before the first day of school and KENS 5 wants to help you save money.

KENS 5 partnered with HEB and Communities In Schools San Antonio to stuff the bus with school supplies.

Over 160 vehicles arrived at the HEB warehouse on Friday to load boxes full of goodies that need to be delivered to area students.

Teamwork makes the dream work is the motto as workers did their part to help a ensure each child is prepared for the first day of school.

"They don't have to go anywhere else. The office is right there on campus so now they go into the hands of our families and kids," Jessica Weaver said.

This year, Communities in Schools San Antonio CEO and President Jessica Weaver said they've raised about $230,000 in school supplies.

Weaver said this is $30,000 dollars more than last year.

"We're really excited that our community has really stepped up. We're still doing monetary donations so we're hoping that that continues to increase and you can still go to HEB and do the tear pad at the register," Weaver said.

The boxes are going to 160 schools across the city.

If you're still looking for notebooks, rulers, colored pencils you can go to the Communities In Schools San Antonio page to see if your school partnered with the program to get some supplies.
