SAN ANTONIO — South San Antonio ISD board tabled the Superintendent's recommendation for a study and requested a budget report for reopening three schools.
According to documents found on the district website, the board of trustees believes re-opening Athens Elementary, Kazen Middle School, and West Campus High School will help to bring current and new students back to their respective neighborhood campuses.
In April 2017, the board voted to close the three schools to save money and address low enrollment numbers.
The cut brought South San ISD down to one high school, three middle schools, and nine elementary schools serving less than 10,000 students.
Wednesday, four board members voted in support of reopening the three schools as traditional schools. Others were considering options to re-purpose the buildings.
West Campus High School is currently being used as the district's main offices.
In a special meeting on Thursday, the board voted to move forward with discussions of reopening the three schools and requested to see a budget report by February 11th.
