Three dogs were given days to be saved following tragedy. Meet the woman who stepped up to foster them.

Jeter, Pauly and Snowy's owner was hit by a truck while on her daily run. She's now in a coma with no one to care for her dogs—until Missy Brown raised her hand.

SAN ANTONIO — An unimaginable tragedy sent three dogs to the City of San Antonio's Animal Care Services (ACS).

Their owner was hit by a truck during her daily run. She is now in a coma with no one to care for her animals.

KENS 5 witnessed how a call for help by ACS captured the hearts of animal lovers across social media.

The dogs were given just days to find temporary placement because of shelter constraints at ACS. After hundreds shared the call for help, a foster came forward with just hours to spare.

We had to meet her.

"Every dog owner is just one crisis away from needing someone to help care for their dogs," said San Antonio resident, Missy Brown. "I'm just happy that I was in a position to help."

Brown's four legged family members just grew from two to five -- at least for now.

"No one had come and shown an interest in [the three dogs]," she explained. "We were like, 'We could try!'"

Earlier this week, a Facebook post by San Antonio's Animal Care Services tugged at her heartstrings.

Update 11/2 (2:30pm): Jeter, Pauly, Snowy, have confirmed foster placement. We thank Ms. B for her willingness to...

"If it's an owner surrender, there's no stray hold," Brown said. "They could actually be euthanized immediately."

Jeter, Snowy and Pauly needed a temporary home -- and fast. Brown said it was her chance to pay it forward.

"A couple of years ago, I got sick myself and spent 12 days in the ICU and I don't know who took care of my dogs," she recalled.

We met Brown immediately after she picked up the siblings from ACS Friday afternoon.

The dogs were sweet and loving. They were also a bit nervous, shaking a bit in the back seat, but excited to be out of the shelter.

"Originally, I thought more people were going to be able to foster and they were going to split them up, but then when I met them and saw how bonded they were, it was clear they were all going to have to stick together," said Brown.

When the dogs' owner wakes and wonders where they are, she'll learn about Brown -- the selfless stranger who gave the dogs the life-saving ride to a loving home where they'll be waiting for the most joyous reunion yet.

"We're a little nervous, but full speed ahead," said Brown, with a smile.

ACS always in need of fosters. They'll provide the veterinary care and the food. All you'll need to provide is the love and the space.
