Two local Eagle Scouts are spending their summer building beds for foster kids in need

Even though they have already earned their Eagle Scout rank, the scouts continue building beds in hopes of keeping foster kids with their biological relatives.

SAN ANTONIO — Two local Eagle Scouts have been busy this summer providing beds for children in need.

Emilio Edwards of Troop 163 in New Braunfels worked with 27 volunteers to construct 22 beds and 95 headboards for the San Antonio chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

"I thought this project was a great way to work with the community to help raise funds to purchase materials and raise awareness about children without beds to sleep in," Emilio shared.

Travis Ghormley of Troop 226 in Stone Oak built beds for children in the CPS system.

The beds allow children to stay with their biological relatives rather than going into the foster system.

"I chose this project because of the immediate impact it would have on the community and how urgent the need for beds was," Ghormely said.

When he saw how quickly the beds went into homes, Ghormely got his troopmates together and is still building beds even though he's earned his Eagle Scout rank.
