SAN ANTONIO — With a new year in San Antonio comes a hope of spring.
And with a hope of spring comes dreams of nighttime parades, flamboyant costumes, bedazzled boots and munching on chicken-on-a-stick at Fiesta.
The city's premier annual event and "party with a purpose" will continue its post-pandemic resurgence, having returned last year in full force and in its regular springtime slot for the first time since 2019. Fiesta 2024 promises to be as grand as ever, anchored by enduring events like Fiesta de Los Reyes, NIOSA, the Battle of Flowers Parade and a Taste of New Orleans.
So when's the big day to circle on your calendar? This year, Fiesta officially runs from April 18-28.
There are some Fiesta-affiliated events happening before the official kickoff in April, however. Some earlier events include the official poster unveiling (Jan. 31), Teen Queen Coronation (March 24) and the Witte Museum's Wonders of Space exhibit (opening April 6).
Fiesta proper gets underway April 18 with several events, including Taste of the Republic and Taste of the Northside.
Fiesta brings more than $340 million to the city every year, according to its website. The festival dates back to 1891, when a group of San Antonians organized the first-ever Battle of Flowers Parade to honor those who fought at the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto. That marquee event continues to this day, and Fiesta organizers tout it as the only parade in the country to be orchestrated entirely by women.
