Dog bites deputy in face during fire rescue

Aerial video from the scene shows significant damage to the home in the Kirby area.

SAN ANTONIO — Fire crews responded to a house fire in the Kirby are Monday afternoon, and a Bexar County Sheriff's deputy was injured when he tried to help out.

The fire started around 3:30 p.m. at a home on Elk Lake Drive near Woodlake Parkway. Aerial video from the scene shows significant damage to the home.

The deputy saved a dog, which was locked in the backyard. But during the rescue, the dog bit him. The dog was successfully rescued. The deputy was taken to the hospital. We're told he is in stable condition.

No one else was injured. There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
