13-year-old arrested after evading police following shooting on northwest side, police say

The suspect has been charged with several charges including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, deadly conduct with a firearm and evading arrest with a vehicle.

SAN ANTONIO — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after fleeing from police following a shooting on the northwest side, authorities say.

At about 1:40 a.m. Friday morning, San Antonio police officers who were working an unrelated traffic stop heard several gunshots at the 2700 block of West Laurel. They then saw a suspect vehicle fleeing from the scene.

Officers then found the victim's residence and vehicle with apparent bullet holes. Officers say the victim was inside the residence when the shooting happened. No injuries were reported.

Officers found the suspect vehicle driving in the area, and confirmed the vehicle was stolen.

When they tried to make a traffic stop, police say the suspect started to drive off in the vehicle. After a short pursuit, the suspect got out of the vehicle, threw a handgun away from himself and tried to evade on foot.

The suspect was arrested shortly after. It was also discovered that he had an active warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

In addition to the warrant, the unnamed suspect has been charged with several charges including deadly conduct with a firearm, evading arrest with a vehicle, evading arrest on foot, unlawful carry of a firearm and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
