SAN ANTONIO — An 18-year-old woman is now dead after being shot on the north side Thursday night, according to authorities.

Officers were called to a shooting in progress in the 200 block of Dean Street around 7 p.m. When they arrived, officers found Kayla Salas, 18, in the front passenger seat of a black sedan with a gunshot wound.

An investigation revealed that the victim's mother, for unknown reasons, drove Salas to the intersection of Howard Street and Dean near Kenwood Park to meet two Hispanic males in their late teens. They were described as being medium built.

While meeting up with them, police say shots were fired and the suspects fled on foot eastbound on Dean.

The mother followed the suspects in her vehicle with Salas in the passenger seat. At the end of the street, police say one of the suspects shot multiple times at the vehicle, hitting "the front windshield near the bottom passenger side in which the bullet ricocheted and hit Salas."

EMS were called to the location and pronounced Salas dead at 7:17 p.m.

Police do not know who the suspects are, and the investigation is still active.
