'They could have killed me' | 78-year-old woman thankful to be alive after teens caught on camera assaulting and robbing her on Valentine's Day

Margaret Schultz walks everywhere these days. On the day of the attack, she was going to H-E-B with the hopes of buying some dog food.

SAN ANTONIO — Margaret Schultz recalls fearing for her life as a group of juveniles attacked and robbed her while she was walking to H-E-B on Valentine’s Day.

“They could have killed me,” Schultz said.

A witness’ cellphone video captured the moments when teens surrounded the 78-year-old woman and knocked her to the ground then ran off.

San Antonio police say the attack occurred around 4:30 p.m. off West Cesar Chavez Boulevard and South San Dario Avenue. Schultz was on her way to the store to buy some dog food.

“They were in the corner and they just stood up and they got me from here and yanked me down. That scared me because I didn’t know what was going on,” Schultz said.

The San Antonio native lives with her sister not too far from where the assault took place. Schultz walks everywhere these days.

“I’ve been walking for a long time. I go to H-E-B. I go to Humana,” Schultz said. “I know how to drive but I don’t have a car. I wish I had a car.”

Schultz said the thieves took off with an envelope containing a $900 check. She’s thankful for a woman who saw what happened and called 911.

Meantime, Schultz is taking it easy recovering from the attack. But she’s not letting what happened scare her from going where she needs to go by foot. Schultz also has a message for the teens, one of whom she believes she’s seen before.

“I’m hurting and I’m still hurting right now,” Schultz said. “If you want something the people can give them something. It’s better than to hurt a person.”

Police are now asking for the public’s help catching the individuals caught on video assaulting Schultz.
