Two arrested after 80-year-old woman killed by stray bullet while leaving a graduation at the Alamodome

The woman was riding passenger in a vehicle when she was shot in the head by a stray bullet from an altercation nearby.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department has arrested two suspects believed to be involved in a shootout that killed an 80-year-old woman after a graduation at the Alamodome in May.

On May 26, police responded to the 600 block of Cesar Chavez around 10 p.m. for reports of a shooting between two groups of young men. Authorities said a man began shooting at two suspects as they were attempting to rob him. The suspects then opened fire on the victim.

80-year-old Heidi Silkworth was reportedly leaving a graduation riding passenger in a vehicle when one of the bullets fired during the altercation struck her in the head.

Silkworth was taken to a local hospital where she later died. One other person was reportedly injured from the altercation.

Police Chief William McManus said they were able to identify the suspects as a 16-year-old and 19-year-old Jacob Rios; and arrested both of them on the south side on Friday.

The suspects are facing a murder charge but McManus said more charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
