Women's empowerment advocate gives safety tips after photographer accused of sexually assaulting client

Bobbie Jawish breaks down the safety techniques she uses when dealing with photographers and clients.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio photographer is behind bars after being accused of sexually assaulting a client at his home, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Javier Salazar said a female victim set up a boudoir session with 48-year-old John Lill.

Lill told the victim the photoshoot would be held at his house - just north of Leon Springs, so the victim decided to bring a friend to the shoot.

"He [Lill] told the friend it was going to take a long time. He told the friend she may as well go," Salazar said.

Salazar said the friend left and the victim was offered alcohol to "relax" for the shoot.

Authorities believe the drink may have been spiked.

"She may have even lost consciousness. But when she came to, she remembers the suspect was urging her to bathe to – we believe – to destroy possibly physical evidence," Salazar said.

Bobbie Jawish is a photographer who specializes in women's empowerment.

"The only person to blame is the sexual assaulter. And that's why its really important to bring awareness to model safety and photographer safety," Jawish said.

Jawish is also the owner of Blue Willow Imagery, a photography service in San Antonio and recommends clients bring someone with them to their photoshoot. It's a safety technique she uses, too.

"I usually have my hair and makeup; glam team with me, so it's not just me," Jawish said.

Jawish believes building trust is the key to a successful shoot.

"It's not unheard of to meet for coffee first. Especially boudoir, because it's a very sensitive subject," she said.

But above all, Jawish says trust your gut.

"And I tell people, just no alcohol. That's a big red flag."
