'Saw the car all messed up' | Man arrested in deadly hit-and-run after family member talks to SAPD, affidavit says

Gilbert Sierra Alvizo, 39, was charged with collision involving death, a second degree felony.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was arrested for allegedly killing a man after hitting him with an SUV and leaving the scene this past summer, according to San Antonio authorities.

Gilbert Sierra Alvizo, 39, was charged with collision involving death, a second degree felony.

According to SAPD, on June 2, 2024, officers responded to a major crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian on the 400 block of Old U.S. Hwy 90 on the west side of the city.

A man, identified as Antonio Gonzalez Almedia, 50, was leaving La Rancherita Night Club, when an unknown white SUV traveling eastbound struck him and failed to stop and render aid, police say.

Almedia was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers spoke to two different witnesses at the scene. Further into the investigation a Crime Stoppers notice was released and police received several tips.

According to the arrest affidavit, police later spoke to the daughter of Alvizo who said she believed her father was involved in the hit-and-run accident. The daughter informed investigators that when her father returned home on June 2,  she "saw the car all messed up," including a broken windshield, dented hood and smoke coming from the vehicle. She said her father also tried to repair the damages in the following days.
