SAN ANTONIO — Four teens are behind bars after stealing an elementary school teacher's car, leading deputies on a chase and crashing, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said the teacher at Crockett Academy had parked on a street near the school, and called to report that it had been stolen around 1:45 p.m. on Monday. She had a tracker in her car, and deputies were able to track it to a location a few miles from the school.
A deputy spotted the car speeding through the west-side neighborhood just a few miles from the school. BCSO says they put down spike strips, but the driver saw them and crashed into a parked car while trying to avoid them.
Authorities say the teens bailed out of the vehicle and took off, running through backyards, jumping fences and hiding underneath houses. They were spotted from the sky by a helicopter, and all four were arrested.
BCSO says the driver is facing stolen vehicle and evading arrest charges, and the other three will all face charges of evading arrest. They confirmed that all of the suspects are under 17.
This is a developing story.
