SAN ANTONIO — A man is behind bars on a $1 million bond after, police say, he fatally shot a pregnant woman on Oct. 20.
Just before 4 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Robeson Avenue and Morningview Street on the city's east side.
According to an arrest affidavit, a woman was found face-down in the passenger seat of a GMC Yukon. Police say she suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
Allison Cevallos, 36, was five months pregnant, documents state. She was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on Oct. 23. Her unborn child couldn’t be saved.
According to the affidavit, Michael Palafos, 37, told police the two were sitting in the vehicle when they got into an argument. Palafos said he was in the passenger seat and took a handgun out of the glovebox. He told investigators they started struggling over the gun and ‘it just went off.’
Police say Palafos did not seek medical attention, but instead moved Cevallos to the passenger seat and drove to a friend’s house where he 'discarded the gun and possible evidence.'
On the victim’s Facebook page, it appears the two were engaged.
When taken in for questioning, authorities say details of his story changed. Palafos was charged with ‘Capital Murder of Multiple Persons.’
Loved ones are planning a plate sale on Saturday to help cover funeral expenses. They are inviting the community to visit Mighty Fortress Church on Loop 410 on Oct. 28 between noon and 4 p.m.
