SAN ANTONIO — The Blessed Angels Community Center reported vandalism at one of its facilities off Nacogdoches Road. Nothing was taken. However, the broken door of the facility is where items are used to feed and give back to families in need.
CEO & Executive Director Marion Thomas talked about the recent vandalism saying it was horrible.
"They had broken the window," she said. "They also had broken the knob on the door. My heart just broke. "We do so much to help people, and everything we do is free. There is no reason for anyone to try and break in and steal."
Thomas added that this damage comes at a challenging time.
"Money is tight," she said. "We haven't gotten any donations in this year. We are working off of last year's donations. So, it makes it hard."
Thomas said in the last five years they have served 2 million people across our area. They feed families from all over, they also give away clothes and toiletries.
"There is a big need," she said. "A lot of people are really hurting more than you know."
Blessed Angels even has a senior center.
"We take care of seniors, I call them my babies," Thomas said. "They come and get a hot meal. They play bingo."
This recent act comes months after KENS 5 reported the non-profit's delivery vehicles were found damaged and vandalized. However, in this recent act, Thomas believes there is a reason why nothing was taken.
"They weren't able to come in here, because we were preparing for our giveaway that's next week," she said. "And we had the bins block the door. Had the bins not been blocking the door, they would have come in and had a field day." I just would have died."
San Antonio Police are investigating. The non-profit just spent hundreds of dollars to fix the door.
Meanwhile, Thursday, June 6 the non-profit will have its 'Big School Is Out Food' Giveaway. It will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. They're expecting up to 900 families and will be giving them about 200 pounds of groceries, even diapers, pet food and lots of baby clothes.
The address is 14078 Nacogdoches Road. Thomas said people should show up early.
