BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A federal affidavit accuses Brad Simpson of illegally possessing a short-barreled rifle, the document obtained by KENS 5 reveals.
Simpson's wife, Suzanne Simpson, has been missing for more than a week, which prompted authorities to search the Simpson home.
Brad Simpson has been in custody since Oct. 9 on charges of assault and unlawful restraint after a neighbor said they witnessed him and Suzanne Simpson in a physical altercation the night she disappeared.
Shortly after the home search, which happened that same day, a U.S. Marshals hold was placed on Brad Simpson, meaning that even if he had paid his bond related to the assault and unlawful restraint charges, he would remain detained until he was cleared for release by federal authorities.
The affidavit states that a family member told authorities that Simpson owned multiple firearms that they wanted to surrender.
One of those weapons turned out to be Grand Power Stribog SP9 A3, according to the affidavit. It has a barrel length of about 8 inches and "is unlawful for any person to possess" unless registered.
Search teams continued to look for Suzanne Simpson on Tuesday at an east Bexar County landfill. Olmos Park Police Chief Fidel Villegas said the Simpson family has provided valuable help in the investigation, which leads them to believe "there is a good chance of recovering Suzanne at that location."
