SAN ANTONIO — Two brothers were robbed at gunpoint outside of their home in the Dellview neighborhood, police say. One of the victims was then pistol whipped.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday near Future Drive and Vance Jackson Road.
The victims’ mother fears for her family’s safety, so she didn’t want to be publicly identified, but told KENS 5 her sons are traumatized.
“Things happen in just a blink of an eye,” she said. “You hear in the news, ‘Oh, this happened.’ But you never think it’s going to happen to you.”
The woman said her sons decided to go to McDonalds on Tuesday. The 22-year-old and 16-year-old were about to get in their car, which was parked on the street in front of their home, when a vehicle pulled up.
“[My sons] said there were five guys with ski masks, they all had guns,” she said. “They were a bit darker, [my sons] believe they were maybe between 17 and 20 years old. It was a brown Kia SUV, but they couldn’t get the license plate because it all happened so fast.”
According to the mother, three of the men pointed guns at her youngest son and demanded his iPhone. She says the 16-year-old quickly handed it over. But then the robbers struggled to get her oldest son’s phone, keys and wallet.
“Since his pants were more tight, they couldn’t get anything out of his pocket,” she said. “They hit him over the head with a gun and took off. I ran outside and I saw him and I was shaking. He was holding his head and he was bleeding. He had blood everywhere.”
The 22-year-old victim needed six stitches, his mother said.
“They don’t even want to go outside, they are both so scared now,” she said. “I just want everyone to be careful when they are going out. Don’t sit in your car just looking at your phone, look at your surroundings. If something like that happens, let go of your belongings. Things can be replaced, your life can’t.”
The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) says this is an active investigation. If you know anything about the aggravated robbery, call police at 210-207-7273.
