Bystander accidentally shot by a man having an argument with a woman, police say

The man and woman were fighting under a bridge when the man shot in her direction, hitting the victim in the leg and abdomen.

SAN ANTONIO — A man having an argument with a woman accidentally shot a bystander during the exchange, according to police.

The two, unrelated, were fighting under a bridge around the intersection of West Commerce Street and North Medina around 1 a.m. Friday morning. The man reportedly pulled out a gun and fired in her direction during the fight, accidentally hitting a 50-year-old bystander in the leg and abdomen.

The suspect and woman fled the scene but were later located by police on West Houston Street. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition but at last check is stable.

The 36-year-old suspect has been detained and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of controlled substance, possession of a prohibited firearm and resisting arrest.

This shooting remains under investigation.
