HOUSTON — Two parents are in the Harris County Jail after they were accused of abusing their young child who later died.
We are still working to learn the exact age of the child since different ages were listed in different court documents.
However, what is clear is that these two parents, Glenn Wayne Smith and Jasmine Marie Ellison, are facing injury to a child charges. Ellison appeared in probable court on Monday.

According to court documents, their daughter Ja’Nae, who is believed to be a toddler, was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital with several serious injuries on Sept. 29.
Inconsistent statements were allegedly given to medical staff from the child’s parents.
They also said the toddler’s injuries were caused by being aggressively shaking per medical staff examinations.
“No brain activity at the time of admission. Blood coming out of her mouth, broken ribs, healed broken rib, that ultimately resulted in the death of the child,” prosecutors said during the hearing.
According to court records, the mother saw the injuries on the child, called the hospital prior to her death, but never brought her in.
We are still working to learn more about this case. In the meantime, both parents are due back in court next month being held in jail on a combined $400,000 bond.
