SAN ANTONIO — Another San Antonio City Council member announced his intent to run for mayor next year as Ron Nirenberg finishes out his term.
Manny Pelaez, who has represented District 8 since 2017 – making him the longest-serving council member among the current cohort alongside John Courage – made the announcement Tuesday on YouTube, pointing to San Antonio as a "place where big dreams do come true" while sharing his vision from different spots around the Alamo City.

Pelaez ticked off crime, the growing cost of living, high taxes and a "job market that excludes too many San Antonians" as problems he would tackle on a city-wide level if elected.
"We will bring all voices to the table," said Pelaez, a former corporate attorney, in his announcement. "But we won't allow grievance, the culture wars or cynicism to impede our success."
The councilman's campaign page cites past initiatives advancing public safety, helping the community secure federal funding to recover from the pandemic and enhancing qualify of life in the city's infrastructure as accomplishments in his district.
Pelaez joins Courage as the two city leaders to announce their intent to run for mayor, vying to succeed Nirenberg, who is term-limited after next year. Courage announced his run in January.
Voters will head to the polls on May 3, 2025. The filing period to officially secure candidacy in the race opens on Jan. 15 of next year.
