ELMENDORF --The city of Elmendorf is mourning the death of Chief Michael Pimentel, who was shot to death Saturday when he stopped Joshua Lopez on a warrant.
An arrest warrant on Joshua Lopez for graffiti included a report by Chief Pimentel on August 19th for an incident of tagging involving a city vehicle.
Pimentel was a father and leaves behind several grandchildren.
During a press briefing Monday afternoon city officials confirmed Pimentel was not wearing a bullet proof vest.
The city of Elmendorf and its police department is handing out blue light bulbs to residents to honor Chief Pimentel. Late Monday afternoon officers had handed out 200 bulbs.
A total of ten reserve officers have stepped up to cover the city during this difficult time. Up to four reserve officers are working each day.
Lopez is in the Bexar County Detention Center, charged with capital murder of a police officer on a $1 million bond.
