'It was really chilling': Criminal spotted pointing a gun at security camera during attempted burglary

Northwest-side neighbors pieced together several videos and pictures showing who they believe to be the same teenagers checking car doors.

SAN ANTONIO — Residents who live on the northwest side believe the same group of burglars is terrorizing a cluster of neighborhoods.

Multiple neighbors pieced together several social media posts showing who they believe to be the same teenager checking car doors.

New video shared on Nextdoor shows the same criminal with an accomplice, who is pointing a gun directly at a security camera. The homeowner, Elena Barrera Maez, shared the chilling video with KENS 5.

Maez says last weekend was the third time her house inside the Pheasant Creek subdivision was targeted by the same people. The first burglary happened the night of Feb. 26, she said.

"It was the same car door that was opened. They were able to steal a weapon that was left in the vehicle," Maez explained. "It was left unlocked."

The neighborhood off Huebner near Eckhert is one of multiple to be targeted within the last few weeks, neighbors reported on Nextdoor.

Neighbors in Apple Creek, Hunters Chase, Springvale and Cypress Pass reported the same criminals checking car doors in their subdivisions.

In the accompanying video to this story, KENS 5 is blurring the criminals' faces because it's believed they're young teens.

The surveillance video Maez shared is from March 16, around 1:40 a.m. You can see two people approaching a car in her driveway, one of whom goes straight to the driver's side window.

Surveillance video shows the driver's side window on the ground as one criminal rummages inside the car. The other points a gun at the camera.

"They used the little screwdriver, used his palm to push it down and the window came right off from the bottom. Didn't shatter. He just placed it on the driveway and jumped in the car," Maez said.

The window was taken out in less than 15 seconds. Waiting just feet away from the criminals was another accomplice driving a getaway car.

Moments later in the video, Maez captured what would be the most frightening moment thus far.

"[He's] pointing the gun at the camera, which up there are the bedroom windows," said Maez. "If I were home, I'd be looking out those bedroom windows...It was really chilling."

Even though Maez did start locking the doors, she's frustrated it still wasn't enough.

"They keep coming back probably because they think we have an arsenal, I'm not sure," she said. "The first time the boy came, that broke the window and went into the car in that video, he was alone the first time he came...Now they bring weapons and they're not alone, they brought their friends. Yeah, they look very confident."

Now, Maez is encouraging neighbors to be more vigilant.

"Keep your cameras on, listen for noises, watch out for each other."
