Man found guilty of fatally beating ex-girlfriend's 5-year-old son, officials say

Daniel Garcia was charged with the death of Domenic Aguilar-Acevedo and burying the boy's body in Colorado back in 2021.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was found guilty of fatally beating his ex-girlfriend's 5-year-old son Wednesday afternoon.

Daniel Garcia was charged with the death of Domenic Aguilar-Acevedo and burying the boy's body in Colorado back in 2021.

The trial began last week. The Bexar County jury deliberated on Wednesday for a couple of hours before delivering the guilty verdict.

Garcia was originally charged with murder but prosecutors decided to charge him with injury to a child resulting in death.

Prosecutors said Garcia had killed Domenic while they were staying in a hotel in San Antonio. Then Garcia and 25-year-old Nickolle Aguilar, the boy's mother drove to Colorado where they buried Domenic in a remote park.

Aguilar told police that Garcia had been abusing Domenic and she admitted she did not report the abuse due to fear of losing custody of their other children.

Aguilar is also facing charges of injury to a child by omission. She testified against Garcia as part of a plea deal.

Garcia could face a maximum punishment of life in prison. His sentencing is set for August 14.
