Family shoots at suspects breaking into their car outside the Shops at Rivercenter, SAPD says

A 35-year-old man was taken to a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

SAN ANTONIO — Emergency crews responded to a reported shooting in the downtown area Tuesday evening, officials say.

San Antonio Police responded to reports of gunfire near Bowie and East Crockett around 5 p.m. The call initially came in near the 100 block of Dallas Street.

A police sergeant on scene said they believe it was a robbery of some sort, but added officials were still investigating. A 35-year-old man was taken to a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the face, police say.

Wednesday morning SAPD provided information regarding what lead up to the shooting.

They said a woman and her family were walking out of a shopping center near the parking lot on East Crockett and Bowie when they saw two people breaking into their car and pointing guns at the family.

That's when police said the woman's husband and son pulled their guns on the suspects and started shooting at them. The male suspect was shot in the face.

Authorities said the two suspects drove off and ended up at Baptist Medical Center where the woman was arrested on a class C warrant.

A worker at a hotel nearby told KENS 5 they had to put the hotel into lockdown during the incident and made sure everyone inside was a guest of the hotel.

According to the police sergeant, eight to 10 shots were fired during the incident.

Police said the suspect shot in the face was a 35-year-old man and the other suspect was a woman. Their full identities have not been released yet.

This is a developing story.
