VAL VERDE COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety has opened an investigation into a single-vehicle crash that left three people dead and others hospitalized.

On May 28, around 9:30 p.m., DPS said their troopers were led on a high-speed chase after a driver failed to pull over for a speeding violation on Recreational Road 2, north of Del Rio in Val Verde County.

According to DPS, the vehicle approached the Rough Canyon recreational area parking lot at an "excessive speed" and misread a curve, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle rolling over.

DPS said two male passengers from Mexico were ejected from the vehicle and the driver ran away from the scene.

Troopers performed CPR on the two males until EMS got to the scene but both were pronounced dead due to head injuries.

One of the passengers from Mexico was taken to a San Antonio hospital and three other passengers from Mexico were taken to the Val Verde hospital. One of the males later died in the hospital.

On May 29, around 5 a.m., DPS said troopers located the driver and took him to a hospital in San Antonio where he is in the custody of federal authorities.

DPS identified the driver as 21-year-old Asha Kisindja, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) said they will be pursuing federal charges in this case.

This is an ongoing investigation and KENS 5 will update this story as more information becomes available.
