The hunt for a man with outstanding warrants came to a dramatic end in the middle of traffic on I-10 Friday morning on the northwest side.
Eyewitness video recorded by a San Antonio man, who happened to be westbound on the access road, shows San Antonio Police Department officers with guns drawn as they surrounded a man near Boerne Stage Road.
Carlos, who preferred not to provide his last name, said that he was shocked and surprised when he suddenly realized that a number of officers who were in the middle of a traffic stop with a wanted man brought traffic to a complete stop on the main lanes of the highway.
“We just saw a whole bunch of cop cars, and all of a sudden there are like six or seven in front of us and they just lit the lights up,” said Carlos, who noted that the action happened fast. “They just had one little black car pulled out and he just threw his keys out and it was like between seven and 10 officers and they had their guns pointed.”
Carlos said that in the aftermath of the scene, he was glad when he realized the officers were able to bring the situation under control safely.
Police say that 42-year-old Joseph Raymond De Salme is the man who was arrested. Investigators said that his outstanding warrants are for tampering with evidence and evading arrest.
Police didn’t say whether De Salme would face additional charges for the incident on Friday.
As of late Friday, De Salme, remained jailed on bonds totaling $7,000.
