Edgewood ISD officer arrested after allegedly assaulting wife

Arrest records said the assault unfolded after Macias came home from a night out. The district says he's "provided additional context contradicting the allegations."

SAN ANTONIO — An officer with Edgewood ISD has been arrested after his wife claimed he assaulted her this month.

On Nov. 8 around 11 p.m., officers responded to 6825 Cagnon Road after receiving reports of an alleged assault that had taken place. According to the affidavit, the officer's wife told authorities she was laying on the couch while speaking to a friend on the phone when her husband, Juan Christopher Macias, came back in. The complainant continued, stating that after Macias went upstairs to change, he came back down and began to stand over her, "attempting to intimidate her."

The affidavit states that when Macia's wife tried to ignore him, he "began screaming obscenities and derogatory remarks," grabbed her left hand which was holding the phone and squeezed hard." It caused her to "launch off the sofa and land on the table, striking her knee (and) causing injury," the affidavit goes on to say.

The complainant told authorities that after she grabbed the phone back from Macias' hand, he apologized and went back upstairs.

Medical personnel was called to the residence to check on the victim. The affidavit states they reported she had "bruising swelling on left hand/wrist and bruising abrasion on right knee."

Macias was detained and placed in a patrol vehicle until an investigator got to the scene. After the investigator spoke with Macias, he was taken to Bexar County jail.

Edgewood ISD said in a statement that Macias was placed on administrative duty, saying that "additional context" provided by him contradicted the victim's allegations.

"In response to events including Officer Macias, he is going through a challenging personal situation involving a marital dispute," the statement reads.
