SAN ANTONIO — A mother had to witness the unimaginable Saturday night.
San Antonio Police said 15-year-old Ethan Martinez was killed while in the parking lot of his apartment complex off Ray Ellison Blvd.
His mother, Stephanie Solis was just feet away inside their apartment, when she heard the gunfire.
“I just remember saying, no no no, just running to the window,” Solis said. “My stomach sunk.”
Police said Ethan was shot near the exit gate of the apartment complex around 9 p.m. They said several vehicles drove off. Solis said her son ran to her.
“Just being with him and telling him to stay with me, just trying to talk to him for him not to fall asleep, like that’s not how I want to remember my baby,” Solis said.
Ethan was taken to the hospital where he died.
“I’m glad I was with him but I hate that it’s replaying in my head over and over,” she said.
Police said they found a gun next to Ethan at the scene. Solis said her son did not own a gun. She, along with her sister and mother, says he stayed out of trouble.
“We know how the world is and we try to raise him up the right way and be respectful and Ethan was very respectful,” Ethan’s Aunt, Natasha Martinez, said.
The family does believe he was targeted. They said he was bullied at school and had to move schools recently because of it.
While police have not named any suspects, the family is confident they will track down whoever is responsible.
“He didn’t deserve this and we’re definitely going to push for answers,” Martinez said.
The family said police are looking through surveillance video in the complex. They are urging anyone with information to come forward.
